Programs

Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) program of Takal Welfare Organization

TWO helps communities gain lasting access to safe water, better sanitation and good hygiene. We install hand pumps, deep wells and solar-powered water systems, rehabilitate existing public water supply schemes, and form operation and maintenance committees so that facilities keep working. Alongside infrastructure, we promote safe hygiene practices such as handwashing, safe water storage and menstrual hygiene management. In 2025 alone, TWO and its partners installed 508 water points with Paani Project, serving about 32,000 people in Swabi, Nowshera and Mardan; 450 hand pumps, 10 water wells and 25 small solar wells with Muslim Charity UK in Swabi; and 53 hand pumps with Muslim Futures in Swabi and Mardan. Reliable water close to home improves health, saves women and children hours every day and helps more girls stay in school.

Climate resilience work by Takal Welfare Organization

TWO helps communities adapt to the growing impacts of climate change by combining disaster risk reduction, sustainable natural resource management and climate-resilient infrastructure. Local knowledge shapes every plan, so that communities are better prepared for floods, droughts and other shocks.Under the Restoring Social Services and Climate Resilience (RSS&CR) project with PPAF in UC Drosh-II, Lower Chitral, communities have prepared village development plans, built flood protection and irrigation works, set up tunnel farms, solarized health facilities, and trained students, teachers, health staff and emergency response teams in disaster risk management. We also promote solar energy and tree planting, and we are working toward access to international climate finance such as the Green Climate Fund.

Health care support by Takal Welfare Organization

We improve access to quality health care through primary health services, mother and child health care, nutrition education and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS). Working with government health departments and partners such as Americares Foundation, TWO has to date worked in 21 health facilities in Charsadda, Nowshera, D.I. Khan and Swat, with retrofitting, rehabilitation and solarization, including three BHUs in Swat restored with solar power in December 2025. We also organize medical camps and vaccination drives and train health workers. In education, TWO supports marginalized children and youth through formal and non-formal education, accelerated learning programs and skills development. In Buner, we ran 50 learning centres for 1,513 out-of-school girls, and in Swabi our community school with Muslim Futures gives children a second chance to learn. We strengthen Parent Teacher Councils, rehabilitate classrooms and provide school supplies for girls, orphans and children with disabilities, including students of special education schools in Haripur supported by COIN Canada.

Humanitarian response by Takal Welfare Organization

When disaster strikes, TWO acts quickly to protect lives and dignity. We have responded to COVID-19, the 2022 floods in Nowshera and Charsadda and the 2025 floods in Buner with food packs, non-food items, safe water and hygiene support, always reaching the most vulnerable households first.Preparedness is just as important as response. TWO trains community emergency response teams, schools and health facilities in disaster risk management, and builds the capacity of local organizations so that they can lead the response in their own communities. As a member of the NEAR Network and the Asian Disaster Reduction and Response Network (ADRRN), we advocate for locally led humanitarian action.

Child protection work by Takal Welfare Organization

TWO works to protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence. Together with families, communities and local authorities, we create environments where children can grow up in safety and dignity. Our programs include awareness campaigns, psychosocial support, case management and referrals, so that vulnerable children get help on time.We strengthen community-based child protection systems by training parents, caregivers, teachers and local leaders to recognize risks and respond effectively. TWO also encourages child participation, so that boys and girls can voice their concerns and take part in decisions that affect their lives. Through advocacy with government institutions, we work for better laws, policies and services, so that every child can thrive free from harm.

Food security and livelihoods support by Takal Welfare Organization

TWO strengthens household food security and economic resilience by combining livelihood support with practical skills development. We support vulnerable families through vocational training, enterprise grants and climate-smart agriculture, including tunnel farming and kitchen gardens, and we help farmers and small business owners reach markets. In 2025, Zakat grants from Muslim Charity UK helped 54 families start small businesses such as retail shops and trades, and women in Lower Chitral turned new skills into income under the Ba-Ikhtiyar Women initiative. In times of crisis, and during Ramadan, Eid and winter, TWO provides food packs, Qurbani meat and warm clothing to the most vulnerable households, including minority families, so that no family is left behind while they work toward a sustainable future.
